Meet David C. Flanigan, M.D.
Dr. David C. Flanigan is a Professor of Orthopedics at OSU where he serves as Director of the Cartilage Restoration Program, Fellowship Director of Orthopedic Sports Medicine, and Team Physician for the OSU Athletic Department. Formerly in private practice, Dr. Flanigan joined the OSU Sports Medicine Department in 2005. He is board certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery and has subspecialty certification in Orthopedic Sports Medicine.

Cartilage restoration is a procedure performed to replace the worn-out cartilage in a joint with new cartilage. It is usually performed to treat small areas of cartilage damage as a result of sports or traumatic injuries.
The meniscus is a soft, fibrous disk of cartilage in the knee joint that is commonly injured during athletic activity. Meniscal repair may be performed either by open surgery under direct vision or minimally invasively using an arthroscope.
Platelet-rich plasma or PRP injections consist of a high concentration of platelets in plasma. It is a relatively new method of treatment for several orthopedic conditions such as muscle, ligament, and tendon injuries; arthritis; and fractures and can help alleviate painful symptoms, promote healing, and delay joint replacement surgeries.
Knee ligament reconstruction is a surgical procedure to repair or replace damaged ligaments of the knee joint. The surgery can be performed using minimally invasive techniques. The ligament may be reconstructed using a graft taken from the patient (autograft) or donor tissue (allograft).
